Abstract
1,264,533. Laying fabrics. BURGER BEKLEIDUNGSWERKE VEB. 28 Feb., 1969, No. 10751/69. Heading D1S. A fabric laying machine comprises a travelling carriage 1 reciprocable over a laying table 3, a shuttle carriage 5 transversely mounted on the carriage 1, an inclined conveyor belt 6 arranged to receive the fabric 62, a further conveyor belt 7 pivotable about a horizontal axis and disposed below the belt 6 and having its lower end movable close to and over the table 3, and a turning device 13' having a mounting for a roll 63 of fabric and an unwinding roller 11 supporting the roll 63 along its length, the device 13 being mounted on the carriage 1 and arranged to rotate about an axis normal to the table surface. The carriage 1 is provided with wheels 2 which run on rails 4 on the table 3. The carriage 5 is provided with wheels so as to be movable transversely to the direction of movement of the carriage 1. A cut-off device 8 is provided near the lower edge of the belt 7. The turning device 13 comprises an annular track 45 supported by rollers 46 and located by rollers 57 and has two side plates with slits for receiving the shaft of the roll 63. The track 45 is drivable by a friction wheel (48), Fig. 3 (not shown), rotatable by a motor (47) and pressed into contact with the lower surface of the track 45. The roller 11 is provided with rubber covered wheels and is vertically movable in the plates 12. Lateral movement of the carriage 5 in respect of the table 3 is initiated by an edge control device 42 and is effected via a spindle 43 driven by a servo-motor 44. The fabric 62 to be laid may have been previously cut to pre-selected lengths and wound to form the roll 63 or is in a continuous length and cut by the device 8 at the end of each lay. In operation, the roll 63 is positioned between the plates 12 and on the roller 11 and the leading edge of the fabric 63 is unwound manually and passed over the belts 6, 7 and under the device 8. The carriage 1 is set in motion and draws the fabric 62 over the clamp bar 51 provided with finger-shaped extensions. As the carriage 1 moves, the roller 11 is set in rotation and when the light source 52 is passed the drawn off fabric 62 comes to rest. The bar 51 and the leading edge of the fabric 62 are lifted by an eccentric disc 66 and a lever 67 until the leading fabric edge slides off the bar 51 and is clamped thereby upon lowering thereof. As the carriage 1 moves forwards the fabric 62 is unwound by the roller 11 and laid on the table 3. To ensure that the fabric 62 is laid free of tension the speeds of the roller 11, the belts 6, 7 and the carriage 1 are synchronized. The device 42 ensures that the fabric is laid with the edges of the layers flush and moves the carriage 5 if necessary. At the preselected terminal position, the carriage 1, the roller 11 and the belts 6, 7 are stopped and the cutter 8 is actuated, if necessary. During the return stroke of the carriage 1, the end of the fabric is rewound on the roll 63 by the roller 11 until the cut edge comes to rest at the highest point of the roll. The motor 47 is actuated to cause the device 13 to turn through 180‹ so that a second layer can be subsequently laid on the first layer with two like sides of the fabric layers facing each other. Before the carriage 1 reaches the initial laying position, a fan 50 temporarily generates a current of air and detaches the end of the web adhering to the roll 63. The roller 11 and the belts 6, 7 are set in motion to unwind the fabric and the second lay is made upon reversal of the carriage 1.
