Abstract

1,264,305. Air filter. D. A. G. MARSHALL. 13 May, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 24671/68. Heading BIT. An air filter comprises a pleated, annular filter element 10 enclosing a cylindrical, conical or frusto-conical support 16 and spaced therefrom by end flanges 12, 14, of which flange 12 is connected to the support by spider 18 to provide an outlet or inlet passage. The element 10 is of two-ply material, comprising a layer of woven glass fibres impregnated with phenolic resin and supporting a layer of polyester or polyurethane foam, glass fibre paper or random mat, bonded to the first layer by curing the resin. End flanges 12, 14, support 16 and spider 18 may be metal or plastics and may be moulded on to the ends of element 10. Flange 12 is bolted to flange 28 of a blower 30. Element 10 may be reinforced by internal and/or external spring steel rings 36.
