Abstract

[Also in Division B5] A laminate used for packaging comprises an inner layer of an elastomeric polymer and two outer layers of polymeric resin each having an extensibility of at least 50% of that of the inner layer, at least one of the outer layers having a coefficient of friction to metal of less than 0.50. The latter requirement may be inherent in the resin or may be provided by means of additives, such as dioctyladipamide, calcium stearate, glycerol mono- or distearate, erucamide, oleamide, N-oleyl palmitamide or silica. The inner layer may be of styrene-butadiene, ethylene-propylene copolymers and terpolymers, polyurethane, chlorinated, reclaimed or cyclised rubber, rubber hydrochloride, polyisobutylene, isobutyleneisoprene copolymers, polyisoprene, polychloroprene, polybutadiene, copolymers of butadiene or isoprene with styrene or acrylonitrile and copolymers of propylene or ethylene with hexene or hexadiene. The outer layers may be of ethylene and propylene copolymers, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers or copolymers of ethylene with C 1 -C 5 -alkyl acrylic esters (e.g. methyl, ethyl and butyl acrylates, butyl methacrylate). One of the outer layers may be preformed and the remaining layers may be applied by extrusion or melt coating.
