Abstract
1,263,533. Jointing by forging; making rods; soldering; jointing. B.V.S. 10 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968], No. 29353/69. Headings B3A, B3H, B3R and B3V. An anchoring head is formed on the end of a metal rod 1 used for pre-stressing concrete, by placing a metal ring 8 on the free end and deforming the end with a punch 4 to bulge the rod and the ring. A sleeve or layer of plastics, adhesive or hard solder coated with flux may be provided between the rod and the ring. The rod is clamped in jaws 2. The ring may be shaped to form a wave-like interface with the rod after compression, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), or with a reduced thickness portion remote from the jaws 2, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The punch 4 may have a recessed face (14), Fig. 9 (not shown), to shape the head. The bore of the ring and the cross-section of the rod may be polygonal or oval. The clamping jaws (2), Fig. 13 (not shown), may be provided with a recess (16) or a nut (23), Fig. 14 (not shown), into which the ring is threaded before compression. The metal spread of the ring may be controlled by a die.
