Abstract

1,263,511. Treating textiles with solvents. VEPA A.G. 23 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968; 25 Feb., 1969; 14 March, 1969; 8 April, 1969 (3)], No. 31565/69. Headings D1L and D1P. In the continuous wet treatment of textiles with a volatile organic solvent-containing medium, the solvent is removed after the treatment by passing a gas, e.g. air or steam, heated to above the solvent b.p., through the fibres of the material, the solvent being subsequently recovered and reused. A sieve-drum arrangement in a gastight housing may be used to support the material while the hot gas is drawn through it, the housing being connected with a solvent recovery plant. The treatment may involve a dyestuff, resin, optical brightener, bleaching agent or filling agent. The material may be pre-dried or pre-washed with the solvent, and may be washed and dried after solvent extraction. Suitable apparatus includes the above sieve-drum device and may further include other conventional devices such as; (a) a preceding trough or sieve-drum bath for treating or solvent-washing the material, (b) a preceding duct-like drier wherein the material is transported without contact, (c) a sieve-drum fixing device to enable sudden heating of the treated material ,and (d) a final washing and drying device which may comprise a series of sieve-drum washing baths alternating with sieve-drum driers. These extra devices may be included inside the gastight housing if desired.
