Abstract

1,263,479. Distillation apparatus. ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd. 3 Feb., 1970 [5 Feb., 1969], No. 6302/69. Heading B1R. A packing material for a distillation column comprising a plurality of double plates, each plate consisting of two expanded metal sheets attached to each other back to back with the strand functions 4 and 5 of each overlying the orifices of the other. The orifice area of the expanded sheets is approx. 50% of the total sheet area. Each plate is preferably made by folding a single expanded sheet, which is then cut in a line along the short way mesh. Shallow mounds are pressed in the sheets so that on folding, the mounds protrude outwards. These mounds abut on adjacent plates when the plates are mounted spacedly from each other in a column, and are drilled to accept a retaining rod to hold the group of plates together.
