Abstract

1,262,818. Polyethylene terephthalate copolymer filaments. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. 22 Sept., 1970 [22 Sept., 1969], No. 45043/70. Heading B5B. Polyethylene terephthalate containing 0À4- 1À5 mole per cent of trimethylol propane as comonomer (based on the dimethyl terephthalate or terephthalic acid component) and having an I.V., measured at 30‹ C. on a 1% w./v. solution in o-chlorophenol, less than 0À5 dl/g., is meltspun into fibres which are (a) stretched at or below 100‹ C. at a stretch ratio not exceeding 1:6; (b) further stretched at 100‹ C. or above with a stretch ratio of 1:1À5 or more; and (c) heat-treated at a temperature greater than that used in (b) but below 160‹ C., for 30 sec.- 5 min. and while allowing 0-3% shrinkage. Stretch (a) may be in hot water. The fibres show high resistance to pilling.
