Abstract

1,262,878. Phase discriminator. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 10 Feb., 1970 [23 June, 1969], No. 31504/69. Heading H3A. A phase discriminator comprises an element 3 for relatively delaying two waves from sources 1, 2, which are fed to an Exclusive OR function circuit 4 for obtaining an output signal whose pulse length depends on the relative phase of the two waves. The two waves may be of substantially unity mark/space ratio or convertible to such by further circuitry (not indicated) before application to the Exclusive OR circuit. The frequency of a slave oscillator 2 may be controlled by feeding the discriminator output to an integrator 5 followed by a varactor diode 6 connected to the oscillator 2. Fig. 2 (not shown) indicates typical waveforms from sources 1, 2 and the output signal from circuit 4.
