Abstract
1,262,560. Stabilizing sodium hydrosulphite. MITSUBISHI EDOGAWA KAGAKU K.K. 10 Oct., 1969 [31 Jan., 1969], No. 49838/69. Heading C1A. Sodium hydrosulphite is stabilized by the addition of a hydrophobic aliphatic amine (or quaternary ammonium compound) having at least one C 5 or higher hydrocarbyl group. Suitable amines include primary, secondary and tertiary mono-amines, N-alkyl substituted diamines such as N-octyl ethylenediamine and N-stearyl propylenediamine, and as a quaternary ammonium compound octyl trimethylammonium chloride. The addition of the amino compound may be effected by washing or spraying the hyposulphite crystals with a solution of the additive in, for example, methanol, followed by drying. Usually 0À01 to 0À2% by wt. of the amino compound is added to the hydrosulphite.
