Abstract

1,262,365. Cooling towers. FILM COOLING TOWERS (1925) Ltd., and A. M. KUNESCH. 31 July, 1970 [9 Sept., 1969], No. 44475/69. Heading F4K. In a cross-flow cooling tower having inlet louvres 7 in its external wall 6 for cooling air, the tower packing comprises a plurality of vertical spaced apart wire or plastics grids 8 supporting successive rows of horizontally disposed spaced apart laths 10. As shown, each lath is of solid construction and has a trapezoidal or polygonal (see Figs. 4 and 5) crosssection. In an alternative form (Fig. 6, not shown), the lath is of hollow construction and has an open base (20), each side face ending in a short outwardly extending flange (21). The upper and side faces may be perforated (see Fig. 7). The laths can be formed of timber or they may be formed of extruded or moulded plastics, or asbestos cement. If desired, the base of each lath may be inclined to the horizontal, clips being used to hold the lath in this position.
