In a cyclone separator of the kind described in the parent Specification, but in which the angular extent of the rectangular entry duct 2 is not necessarily 180‹, there is located within the cylindrical casing 1 and at a distance below the lower termination of the duct 2 an inner duct tube 10 and a bottom plate 11 spaced from the tube 10, the tube and the plate each having an annular gap between it and the wall of the cylindrical casing. The tube 10 and the plate 11 are secured to the casing by straps 12. 13. The tube 10 is frustoconical and has a chamfered edge 14, Fig. 3, at its upper larger end. When treating wet steam, the tube 10 forms a restriction in the path of the descending water vortex which is also supported by the plate 11 independently of the level of water outside the casing. These features provide less tendency for the layer of water in the centre of the plate 11 to become too thin when there is a low water level outside the casing so that re-entrainment of steam is reduced. The gap between the chamfered edge 14 of the tube 10 and the casing allows only steam-free water to drain away so that surplus water falling inside the tube 10 has a reduced velocity when it flows through the gap between the plate 11 and the lower edge of the tube 10 thereby reducing re-entrainment of steam. Re-entrainment may be further reduced by providing a plate 16, Fig. 4, below the bottom edge of the casing, the gap between the plate and the casing being adjustable by means of a threaded attachment 17-19. A number of separators may be mounted in a battery as illustrated in Fig. 6 or Figs. 7 and 8 of the parent specification.
