Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A thermally insulating pipe covering comprises an insulating layer 3, e.g. of mineral wool, secured, e.g. adhered, to a casing 4, which is longitudinally split, longitudinal edge 5 being provided with spaced hooks 8 or barbed tongues for insertion through spaced slits 7 formed in the other longitudinal edge 7. The casing may be of p.v.c., metal, leather board or bitumenized pulp board. As shown, the hooks or tongues are formed from the sheet forming the casing, but they may be constructed in the form of a hook bar which is then secured to the casing. The casing extends beyond the insulation at 9 for overlapping an adjacent covering, Fig. I (not shown). Each slot may be cut obliquely through the casing material, as at 7a, so that casing section 10 can be moved to its broken line position to facilitate removal of hook 8. Various alternative forms of hooks or barbed tongues with their associated slits are described, Figs. 4-10 (not shown). The slits may be longer than the corresponding axial dimension of the tongues or hooks to allow the covering some flexibility when fastened around a pipe.
