Abstract
1,261,306. Converter hoods. CHEMICAL CONSTRUCTION CORP. 10 June, 1970 [19 June, 1969], No. 28218/70. Headings F4B and F4J. The space between the mouth 4 of converter 1 and water cooled gas offtake hood 8 is partially blocked off by an annular curtain of freely suspended chains 20. The stainless steel chains may be suspended from the hood itself, or from an annular collar 19 mounted either on or independently of the hood. In the latter case, the vertical location of the chain curtain may be varied in dependence on the negative gas pressure within the hood. Water from-line 27 may be sprayed over the chains from perforations in collar 19, both to cool the chains and form an additional steam curtain.
