Abstract

1,261,188. Luggage racks. DESMO Ltd. 30 Oct., 1969 [8 Nov., 1968], No. 14871/71. Divided out of 1,261,187. Heading B7J. [Also in Divisions A4 and F2] In a luggage rack according to Specification 1,261,187, and having metal tube in its construction, a connection between a tube of the rack, for example 9, Fig. 4, and another tube of the rack, for example 8, Fig. 4, comprises a hexagonal nut 10 disposed coaxially in the bore of the tube 9 and secured by deformation of the wall of the tube 9 forming two circumferential grooves 11 which grip the nut 10 at its periphery and an externally screw-threaded member 12 engaging the thread of the nut 10 and extending through the adjacent end of the bore. The member 12 passes through diametrically opposite holes in the tube 8 and an axial bore in a moulded plastics junction-piece 13. The junction-piece 13 has a hollow seating 14 of cross-section such as to be complementary with the surface of the tube 8 and a spigot 15 and sleeve part 16 fit respectively into and around the end of the tube 9. A rubber pad 19 engages the surface of the roof or boot of the vehicle and is moulded around one end of a bolt or screw 18 which engages a nut secured in a leg portion 7 of a tube 6 in a manner similar to that used for the nut 10 in the tube 9.
