A method for selectively combating weeds in a crop area containing cereal, rice and sugar cane cultures comprises applying to the crop area a compound of the formula: in which Y is Br, CH 3 or CH 3 O and R is H, C 1-4 alkyl or CH 3 O. Optionally other active ingredients may be present, e.g. bromoxynils, benzaldoxime ethers, urea derivatives and triazine derivatives.
