Abstract
1,260,327. Tubular heat exchangers; hot water systems. H. BRANTS. 3 Nov., 1969 [18 Dec., 1968], No. 53854/69. Headings F4A and F4S. In a heating system, particularly a hot water system for a building operating on the recirculating principle, wherein the water is heated in a cylindrical shell containing heating coils 17 through which steam is passed, the temperature of a sample flow of the recirculated water to which make-up water has been added is sensed by a temperature responsive device 29 which is adapted to regulate the amount of steam fed to the coils 17. Make-up water is added via pipe 35 to replace any-hot water used up in the building. The majority of the recycled water plus makeup water enters the heat-exchanger to be reheated through air inlet 23 equipped with a diffuser 24, but a small proportion (representing the sample flow) is admitted through an inlet 26 connected to a perforated chamber 27 containing the temperature responsive device 29. The device 29 controls a valve 45 in the steam line 44 feeding the coils 17. Valves 41, 42 are provided to vary the proportions of recycled and make-up water entering the top of the heat exchanger through the inlet 26. Reheated water leaves through an outlet 25. Each heating coil 17 comprises a series of spiral coil members 18 interconnecting an inlet header 19 and an outlet header 20 both of which protrude through the shell and terminate in pipe connections 21, 22.
