Abstract

1,259,862. Wall plugs. U.S. EXPANSION BOLT CO. 24 Feb., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968], No. 9786/69. Heading F2H. A tamper-proof expansion fastener comprises an expansion plug 10 having a head 12 and a shank 14; and a nail 50 having a head 52 to encompass the plug head and a shank 54 for entering into and expanding the plug shank 14. The plug 10 which may be provided with a diametral slot or two leg portions (Fig. 8, not shown) may be provided on the exterior surface of the shank 14 with a buttress thread and the head 12 may have two planar surfaces or be provided with a frusto-conical surface (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). An entrance bore (20) (Fig. 2, not shown) provided in the plug 10 for receiving the pointed end of the nail 50 may be arcuately or conically tapered and provided with circumferentially spaced, longitudinally extending buttresses (22) (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) and with an enlarged portion. The nail 50 may have a domed head 52 provided with an annular recess 62 for accommodating the head 12 of the plug 10, buttresses on the shank 54, a smooth portion 58 and a pointed tip 56.
