Abstract
1,259,530. Dyeing with photosensitive dyes. AHMEDABAD MFG. & CALICO PRINTING CO. Ltd. 30 Dec., 1969, No. 63197/69. Headings D1B and D1L. Fabrics made of cellulose and/or natural fibres with or without metallic threads coated with a plastic film or blends thereof with polyesters or polyamides are treated in a continuous process to produce a colour on a first face of a fabric different to the second face by padding undyed or dyed fabric in a dark chamber with an aqueous solution of a photosensitive sulphoric ester of a leuco vat dyestuff, squeezing the fabric and passing it through an exposure chamber protected from external light such that only the said first face is exposed to a source of light provided within said chamber, washing the fabric in a dark chamber with a stripping agent followed by a conventional washing process. Preferably the pH of the leuco ester solution is pH 4 to 5, different patterned effects being obtained by placing stencils between the source of light and the fabric. An apparatus for the above process comprises a roll B 1 , a padding mangle P, protected from light by black screens S 1 , an exposing unit E with sources of light A 1 , As and A 3 and with an endless rubber blanket B which moves continuously on rollers R and S, (the lights A 1-3 may be of any type and may be moveable), a soaper having compartments W 1 , W 2 , W 3 and W 4 , W 1 being protected from light by screens S 2 , a rinsing compartment R, a drying machine D and a batching roll B 2 .
