A latchable, non-reciprocal, ferrite phaseshifter comprises a zig-zag microstrip delay line mounted on a core of ferrite material which may be magnetized by a conductor extending through the material parallel to the plane of the line. In the embodiment of Fig. 7, the core consists of a rectangular torus 22 of ferrite having a conductive layer 33 on its interior surface and bearing on its exterior faces four zig-zag line conductors 11, 12, 13, 14 extending generally in the direction of the axis of the torus. A conductor 4 extending along this axis serves to control the state of magnetic remanence of the core 22 and hence the phase-shift provided by the delay lines. Other embodiments are described using two delay lines or a single delay line. In the latter embodiment a flattened circular ferrite torus is used. The control wire may carry digital pulse commands and by using n phase-shifters connected in cascade, a phase-shifter quantified to n bits may be obtained. A reciprocal arrangement may be obtained by connecting two phase-shifters in parallel paths between pairs of ports on respective ones of a pair of circulators such that signals propagated in opposed directions pass through different phase-shifters.
