Abstract
1,258,279. Machine safety device. HUWOOD Ltd. 5 Oct., 1970 [22 Oct., 1969], No. 51803/69. Heading F2J. [Also in Division H1] A machine safety device comprises a cable 2 passing over pulleys 3, 4 to position it between the working position and the operator. The cable is connected electrically between a control box and a pull switch 5. The switch comprises contacts 9, 10 normally held engaged by a spring 17. The cable 2 is coaxial and the central core 7 is clamped to the contact 9 while the outer conductor 8 is clamped between parts 11, 12 connected by a spring 14 and contact black 15 with the contact 10 through a half-wave rectifier 16. The contacts 9, 10 and rectifier 16 are in a control circuit having a relay which is only closed with the application of the half-wave current. Thus on pulling the cable 2 the contacts 9, 10 are opened against the action of the spring 17 and the relay opens breaking the A.C. supply to the machine motor and preferably applying a D.C. supply thereto to stop the machine quickly.
