Abstract

1,258,258. Wheel suspensions. A.C. CARS Ltd. 17 June, 1969 [18 March, 1968], No. 13004/68. Heading B7D. In a rear-wheel driven road vehicle having at least one steerable front wheel, the king pin for the or each front wheel is mounted on a composite axle comprising two coaxial relatively rotatable parts pivotally connected to the vehicle frame through opposite sides of a parallelogram linkage. The axle comprises a shaft 12 within a sleeve 3, there being an arm 1 welded to the sleeve 3 and to a sleeve 2 which is rotatably mounted by a bolt 7, bushes (6) and brackets (8, 9) to a frame member 10. The shaft 12 is rigidly connected to one end of a lever 14, the other end being pivotally secured by a bolt 16 to a link 15 which in turn is pivotally secured to a frame member 21 by a bolt 19 and bracket 20, the member 21 extending transversely from the member 10. A spring unit 23 connects the sleeve 3 to the frame member 21.
