The invention comprises compounds of the formula where Ar 1 and Ar 2 are phenyl or substituted phenyl radicals, Ar 3 is a phenylene or naphthy. lene radical, n is 0, 1, 2 or 3, X is an acyl halide, amido, alkylidyne oximido, ethynyl, carboxylic acid anhydride, alkylene carboxy having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, alkylene hydroxy having up to 8 carbon atoms, semicarbazono, or phenylene carboxy radical, or if n is 1, 2 or 3, X may also be a hydrogen atom, carboxy, ester, hydroxy or cyano radical and R 1 and R 2 are each hydrogen atoms, alkyl groups having up to 8 carbon atoms or phenyl groups. A variety of methods are given for the preparation of these compounds.
