Abstract

1,257,261. Precipitation hardening. ELIN-UNION A. G. FUR ELEKTRISCHE INDUSTRIE. Feb. 25, 1969 [Feb. 27, 1968], No. 9979/69. Headings C7A and C7N. Alloys are precipitation hardened by the simultaneous application of solution heat treatment and one or more magnetic alternating fields and/or vibrations, followed by quenching. The magnetic fields or vibrations may be produced as follows:- (1) by electromagnetic induction, (2) by conductive supply of alternating currents, (3) by being brought into the field of a magnet of continuously changing magnetic polarity, (4) by relative motion between the alloy and the field of a magnet of constant polarity, (5) by means of the sound field of a sound generator, (6) mechanically, as by shaking. The alloy may be heated (a) by conduction, (b) by radiation, (c) by passing direct current therethrough, (d) by the eddy currents generated as a result of method (1) above and (e) by the A. C. of method (2) above. The example relates to the treatment of an alloy consisting of Cu 5À4-5À9% Fe 0À3% Si 0À15% Mg 0À05% Zn 0À2% Pb 0À3-0À6% Ni 0À3-0À6% Al balance.
