Abstract

1,257,065. Stamping; making metal structures. JUNKERS & CO. G.m.b.H. 25 April, 1969 [27 April, 1968], No. 21138/69. Headings B3A and B3Q. A process for forming a corner defined by three or four sides in a sheet metal blank 10 which has bounding the corner at least on two sides an inwardly directed flange of greater width than the radius of the corner comprises bending over edges of the blank to form flanges extending almost to the corner so that an outwardly directed lobe is formed in the corner, and drawing the lobe into the corner by applying a force in the direction along a line bisecting the angle between the flanges bounding the corner and parallel to the plane or planes of the flanges. Edges 101, 102 having outwardly directed lobes 21-26 are formed in the blank 10 by dies 11 and 12. The lobes 21-24 are drawn using a die 43, moving in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 5. An inner die (not shown), having a shape corresponding to the initial shape of the lobe, co-operates with the die 43. The flanged blank is then folded along the lines 14, (15) by means of jaws 16 and 17 after which the blank is inserted into a holder 41, held in position by plate 42 and the lobes 25 and 26 drawn using the outer 43 and inner dies.
