Abstract
1,257,048. Gas blast switches. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. 27 June, 1969 [28 June, 1968], No. 32760/69. Heading H1N. In a gas blast switch of the kind having the interrupting chambers 1 and an operating pressure-gas container 2 located at high potential and connected by way of the supporting insulator 3 to a pressure-gas storage container 6 located at earth potential and containing gas at a very much higher pressure than the container 2, the connection is made through a small intermediate reservoir filled with sufficient gas at the higher pressure to restore the pressure in the container 2 ready for a second interruption quickly following the first but itself more slowly refilled from the storage container 5. The arrangement reduces pressure surges in the container 2 and insulator 3 which would otherwise be produced by the insufficiently fast action of a valve 9 controlling the flow of gas into them to restore the operating pressure. The valve 9 is electromagnetically operated under the control of a pressure responsive switch 8. It is bypassed by another valve 14 responding only to small pressure drops due to leakage or normal load interruptions and which has a much smaller opening. Another valve 10 which is slow acting connects the reservoir 7 to the storage container 6. Throttles 11, 12 which may be formed by the valve openings or separately prevent the direct flow of gas between the containers 6, 2.
