Abstract
1,256,030. Blending fibres. FIBER CONTROLS CORP. 19 Dec., 1969 [27 June, 1969], No. 62039/69. Heading DIF. A method of blending fibres comprises depositing fibres in a number of weighing pans, transferring the fibres from the pans to a conveyor when there is a predetermined weight in each pan, moving the conveyor through a fixed distance after each fibre transfer and producing a signal to indicate a malfunction when the conveyor remains stopped for longer than a predetermined period. Individual feed means feed fibres to each pan. When a predetermined weight is in a pan a switch is operated to stop the feed. When all the feeds are stopped the fibres are transferred to a stationary conveyor beneath the pans. The conveyor is then started until it operates a stop switch, the "sandwiches" of fibres formed being fed to a further processing device. The system is arranged to continuously re-cycle. When the system runs correctly the stationary phases of the conveyor are of approximately the same length. A time-delay mechanism is incorporated in the control circuit so that if the conveyor remains stationary for a substantially longer period, a horn is sounded, a light operated or a signal fed to a recorder to indicate a fault. A variety of faults are thus detected, e.g. if fibres are not being fed to the pans or if the fibre transfer mechanism is faulty the fibres will not be dumped, and the conveyor will remain stationary thus indicating the fault.
