Abstract

1,255,063. Etching. INSTITUT FUR GRAFISCHE TECHNIK. 12 March, 1969, No. 13024/69. Heading B6J. An apparatus for etching printing plates 5 comprises a rotatable cylinder 1 arranged to support the plates with their surfaces to be etched facing inwards and includes a brush 10 to brush the etchant over the surface of the plate and a doctor 20 to remove the etchant from the said surface. Brush 10 and doctor 20 are movable between operative and inoperative positions. The brush 10 may be axially reciprocated. Etchant may be removed through a drain slot 17, normally covered by closure strip 16 carried on arm 15. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the cylinder 1 is oscillated instead of being rotated.
