Abstract
1,254,568. Explosive compositions. NITRO NOBEL A.B. 26 Nov., 1968 [27 Nov., 1967], No. 56097/68. Heading C1D. A blasting composition is prepared by dispersing ammonium nitrate provided with a hydrophobic alkylamine coating into a liquid mixture of nitroglycerine, nitroglycol, and a desensitizing agent, for example mononitrotoluene, dinitrotoluene, trinitrotoluene, dibutyl phthalate, or diethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether. The desensitizing agent lowers the negative oxygen balance to at least 20%. Wet nitrocellulose is added as a gelatinizing agent ; in order to assist extrusion, sodium nitrate may replace part of the ammonium nitrate. The coating agent for the ammonium nitrate may be dodecylamine, hexadecylamine, octadecylamine, oleylamine, stearylamine, or stearyl propylene diamine; the amine may be partly combined with stearic or palmitic acid to form, for example, stearyl ammonium stearate. Other ingredients referred to are wood meal, wheat bran, sulphur, chalk, pigments, aluminium powder, and synthetic silica. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 911,949.
