Abstract
1,253,768. Electric railways. MERLIN GERIN. 11 Feb., 1970 [17 Feb., 1969], No. 6469/70. Heading B7L. [Also in Divisions E2 and H2] A linear induction motor comprises a polyphase-wound field member 10, the winding being arranged so as to produce magnetic fields moving in opposite directions on opposite sides of the field member. As shown in Fig. 1, the coils of phase III extend between oppositely directed slots 16, 18 on the two sides 12, 14 of the field member whilst the coils of phases I and II are transposed between slots on opposite sides of those containing the phase III coils. Yokes 30, 32 are located adjacent the sides 12, 14 of field member 10 so as to define air gaps 26, 28 through which move armatures 22, 24. The motor may drive trains of cars 34, Fig. 3, along a closed circuit track 36. Spaced field members 40, 42 are located between the forward and return parts of the track and co-operate with armature plates carried by the cars.
