Abstract
1,252,754. Thermoelectric devices. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 27 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 9461/68. Heading H1K. A copper- or stainless steel-sheathed magnesia-insulated thermocouple cable length 1 constitutes a plug-in reference junction for a temperature indicating or measuring system. The length has four cores, two are copper connecting wires, each of which is welded at the end of the length to one of the other two wires; the other cores may be one of chromel and one of "Alumel" (Registered Trade Mark), or one of iron and one of constantan. The end of the cable length where the cores are joined is sealed by a steel sheath 7. At the other end of the length, the sheath is stripped back and the cable end sealed with epoxy resin 12; the bare core ends are led into insulating sleeves 11 anchored in a spacer 13. The two copper cores are connected to one connector 16 and the two thermocouple cores to the other connector 18. The connectors are preferably polarized and conform to same standard size and preferably differ from one another in colour, pin size or spacing &c. A meter or other device is coupled to the copper wires by a complementary connector and thermocouple wires or compensating leads are coupled to the other connectors to provide the measuring junction.
