Abstract
1,252,228. Cyclone separator. ETHYL CORP. 14 July, 1970, No. 34071/70. Heading B2P. In a cyclone-type particulate trap, Fig. 1, for removing particulates from a gas stream, e.g. the exhaust gas from an i.c. engine, Fig. 2 (not shown), re-entrainment of particulates from the particulate collection chamber 6 back into the cyclone separating chamber 3 is reduced by positioning a mesh-like or porous body 8 of material in the collection chamber to form a hollow cylindrical core 9 having substantially the same diameter as the particulate reject hole 7 between the cyclone chamber and the collection chamber. The particulate-laden gas enters through an inlet and is imparted a cyclonic motion by deflectorvanes. The purified gas leaves through a discharge conduit 4 the mouth 5 of which is positioned below the inlet 1. The body 8 may be formed of wire mesh, metal turnings, steel wool marble chips, gravel or expanded metal. A perforated core liner 10 may be used to maintain the cylindrical core 9.
