Abstract
1,252,030. Fastener driving tool. OMARK INDUSTRIES Inc. 5 June, 1969 [24 June, 1968], No. 28487/69. Heading B4C. A fastener driving tool comprises a barrel 14 mounted for longitudinal and pivotal movement relative to a housing 10, and a sleeve 17 slidable relative to the barrel when the latter is pivoted to a reloading position. A piston 22 is slidable within the barrel and is returnable to its firing position by a retractor 82 carried on sleeve part 76, which is connected to or integral with the remainder of the sleeve 17, when the sleeve is moved by handle 78 in a direction towards the breech end of the barrel. The retractor 82 extends into the barrel bore via slot 72. A magnet 130 serves to retain the barrel aligned with breech block 16. Movement of the barrel is permitted by a pin 120 engaging in a slot 122, and a retaining member 68 limits the pivotal movement of the barrel. The tool is cocked and fired in a manner similar to that described in Specification 1,251,849. Removal of pin 124 permits the barrel to be removed from the tool housing. The piston has an ejector 86 and a tapered surface which engages a corresponding surface 116 on a stop 74 should the piston overtravel. The sleeve 17 acts as a muffler for sounds emitted upon explosion of a cartridge or charge within chamber 36.
