1,251,082. Aromatic diaminodicarboxylic acids; condensed pyrrole derivatives. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 12 Sept., 1968 [13 Sept., 1967; 18 Oct., 1967; 24 Oct., 1967], No. 43531/68. Heading C2C. Aromatic diaminodicarboxylic acids of formula in which (A) is a tetravalent aromatic radical of 6-19 carbon atoms, containing one or two benzene rings which may be condensed (naphthalene) or linked together, e.g. by -O-, -CH 2 -, -S-, -CO- or -CONH-, or by a direct bond; and when (A) contains two benzene rings, the linkages (1) and (2) are directly attached to the adjacent carbon atoms in one of the benzene rings in (A), and the linkages (3) and (4) are directly attached to the adjacent carbon atoms in the other benzene ring of (A); whereas, when (A) contains one benzene ring, the linkages (1) and (3) are disposed in the meta-position to each other, are prepared by reacting the aromatic diamine of Formula (II) in which (A<SP>1</SP>) is a divalent aromatic radical of 6-19 carbon atoms, containing one or two benzene rings as in A; and when (A<SP>1</SP>) contains two benzene rings, the two amino radicals are each linked with different rings; whereas, when (A<SP>1</SP>) contains one benzene ring, the two amino radicals are in the meta-position to one another, with chloral hydrate and hydroxylamine to give an oxime of formula cyclising this with conc. H 2 50 4 to give a condensed pyrrole derivative of formula and oxidizing this with H 2 0 2 . A and A<SP>1</SP> may contain further substituents. Several compounds of Formula IV and their oxime precursors are isolated.
