Abstract
1,250,868. Thermoelectric devices. SIEMENS A.G. 11 June, 1970 [25 July, 1969], No. 28410/70. Heading H1K. A plurality of thermo-elements located in respective apertures in a thermally insulating plate are connected together by hot and cold junction bridges having heat transference projections which engage respective frame members to define heat transfer fluid ducts and to apply pressure to the bridge-thermo-element contacts. The contacts may be effected merely by the pressure or may be soldered in addition. As shown, Fig. 1, an insulating plate 1 of hard polyurethane foam is provided with a plurality of countersunk apertures 2 within each of which is located a thermo-element 3. The thermoelements are connected in series by hot and cold bridge members 4, each of which comprises a base member 4a having projections 4c which enter the apertures 2 and contact the thermoelements 3, and fins 4b. Two U-shaped frame members 5, 6 are secured to the plate 1 by rivets 7 and are lined with elastic foam layers 8 which are deformed by and hence apply pressure to the ends of the fins 4b, thus holding the ends of the projections 4c against the thermo-elements 3. The frame members 5, 6 together with the fins 4b define ducts for a heat transfer fluid such as air. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the frame members are of resilient material and are shaped so that they apply the requisite pressure to the ends of the fins. The bridge members 4 may be of Cu or A1 and the projections 4c may be pressed-out of the base 4a or may be solid. The heat transference members may be in the form of needles instead of fins.
