A rear-view mirror assembly 10 comprises a pedestal 17, a mirror 11 adjustably mounted on the pedestal 17, first position-indicating means 21 fixed relative to the pedestal 17 and second position-indicating means 20 fixed relative to the mirror 11, the first and second position-indicating means 21, 20 co-operating without physical contact therebetween to indicate the positioning of the mirror with respect to the pedestal 17. As shown in Fig. 1, the mirror 11 has a rim 13 which is marked with a series of spaced parallel circular strips 20 which co-operate with a plurality of markings 21 angularly spaced round the open edge of a semi-ellipsoidal wind deflector housing 23. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the housing is a cylinder and in a further arrangement, Fig. 7 (not shown), the housing edge is transparent with a plurality of spaced parallel circular lines whilst the rim of the mirror is marked with a plurality of angularly spaced lines. As shown in Fig. 4, a guide pointer 40 of four-pointed star shape and mounted on a stem 44 extending from pivot joint 34 through an aperture 45 in housing 43 co-operates with a series of angularly spaced marks 41 around aperture 45. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 6 (not shown), the pointer is fixed directly to the mirror supporting stem and the marks are arranged around the pivot joint.
