[Also in Division B8] In an automatic poultry feeder, feed carried from a hopper to an upper trough 6 by an endless chain 3 falls into a lower trough 4 through holes 20 in the upper trough bottom and holes 21 in a reciprocating plate 10 when these two sets of holes are aligned, a timing mechanism to run at preset intervals being provided to switch on respective mechanisms for driving the endless chain and the reciprocating plate, and two interleaved comb-shaped members 22, 24 being provided in the lower trough to spread the feed uniformly on each side of the trough. The timer-mechanism consists of a synchronous motor 48 (Fig. 4B, not shown) which, through a reduction gear (49) and a mechanism (43, 42, 41) drives at a preset speed a plate 40 having a plurality of circular tracks 61 (Fig. 4A, not shown) comprising uniformly disposed holes (62). The plate also has a light source on one side and a radially adjustable photo-electric cell on the other so that with a plate-hole coming in a line with the light source and the cell, activates to switch on respective motors of the chain-driving and the platereciprocating mechanisms which mechanisms are provided with means which are preset independently to stop the mechanisms after an interval of time. The mechanism will operate again after the next plate-hole comes in line with the light-source and the cell. The height of both the troughs together is adjustable.
