Abstract

1,247,604. Vehicle tyres. GUSTAV WOLFSEIL-UND DRAHTWERKE. 13 Oct., 1969 [16 Oct., 1968; 11 June, 1969], No. 50257/69. Heading B7C. [Also in Division D1] A strand of polygonal cross-section having filaments constituting an inner lay and an outer lay, is characterized in that the outer lay filaments are arranged in groups of three associated with each inner lay filament, two of the outer lay filaments in each group being thinner than the third, the strand having no filament extending coaxial with the strand axis. In Fig. 2 there are three inner filaments 9, 10, 11 and nine outer filaments. Inner filament 9 is associated with three outer filaments 9a, 9b, 9c and filaments 9a, 9b are thinner than filament 9c. Fig. 1 illustrates an embodiment in which two inner filaments 1, 2 are associated with six outer filaments. Inner filament 1 is associated with the three outer filaments 3, 4, 5 and filaments 3, 4 are thinner than filament 5. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates an embodiment in which there are four inner filaments and twelve outer filaments. The Specification also describes cables made from the strands. The strands or cables may form an endless ring and may be embedded in a vehicle tyre. The filaments may be of metal, glass, plastics or any combination of these materials.
