Abstract
1,246,408. Cable joints. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 4 Dec., 1969 [13 Jan., 1969], No. 1851/69. Heading H2E. A joint in a polyolefin-sheathed electric cable is sealed with a copolymer of an olefin having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, e.g. ethylene, propylene and butylene, and an unsaturated ester, e.g. vinyl acetate, ethyl acrylate and allyl methacrylate. To make the joint, the individual joined conductors are given a protective covering, a sleeve, optionally removable is placed around the joint and the heat-softened copolymer introduced by injection-moulding. It may include an anti-oxidant or carbon black.
