Abstract

1,246,357. Percussive tools. INSTITUT GORNOGO DELA IMENI A.A. SKOCHINSKOGO. 25 Aug., 1969, No. 42180/69. Heading B4C. A percussive tool, e.g. a drill, a hammer or a tamper comprises a striker piston 2 which drives a tool bit 12 via a displaceable anvil 4 and a resilient cushion. The tool is pneumatically actuated, having an air inlet 13, a distributing valve 3, and passages 7 leading to chambers 8, 9. The air trapped in chamber 9 forms a pneumatic cushion between the piston 2 and anvil 4; air in this chamber 9 may be replaced by other resilient material or springs and the piston 2 may be a thin-walled hollow cylinder constructed from a polymeric material, e.g. " Plexiglas," " Caprolite " (Registered Trade Marks) or steel.
