Abstract

1,245,415. Turbines; axial-flow compressors. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Sept.11, 1969 [Sept.13, 1968], No.43566/68. Headings F1C and F1T. [Also in Division F2] A gas turbine, compressor or like machine has its casing 11 surrounded by at least two helically wound metal strip members 24, 26 of sufficient strength to contain fragments in the event of rotor disintegration, the members 24, 26 being wound as a multi-start helix in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation Y of the rotor. The radially inner ends of the members 24, 26 may be welded to the casing 11 while the outer ends extend tangentially of the casing and are secured to fixed mounting structure.
