Groups of self-adhesive labels E on a supporting sheet H are produced by simultaneous blanking operations on the supporting sheet H and a label-forming sheet F, which sheets are fed as a composite band. Rotatable blanking cylinders B, C each act simultaneously as blanking dies and backing elements, cutting edges 26, 28 of the upper cylinder B facing bearing surfaces Q of the lower cylinder C, while lower cylinder cutting edges 30, 32 face upper cylinder surfaces M. Gear-wheels 14-20 interconnect the cylinders B, C for simultaneous rotation.
