Abstract

1,245,046. Smallware looms. CROMPTON & KNOWLES CORP. 22 April, 1969 [22 April, 1968], No. 20491/69. Heading D1E. In a smallwave loom a pin 34' for retaining weft loops is positioned parallel to the fabric on the entry side of the shed and, means are provided to move the pin towards the fell as the inserter begins its stroke and hold it adjacent the fell until beat up and then move it back to release the loop and a latch knitting needle is provided to produce a knitted selvedge on the opposite side of the shed. As shown in Fig. 7 the pin 34 is moved towards and away from the fell by a cam 96 acting through a lever 82. In order to produce a scalloped edge the pin 34' may be moved towards and away from the edge of the fabric by an edge cam 78 (Fig. 6) acting through a lever 62 and stub shaft 38. In a modification cam 96 is replaced by a toothed wheel 43 driven from the loom main shaft and a follower 52 on an arm 38 rotates shaft 38 to move the pin 34 towards and away from the fell.
