Abstract
1,244,927 Pipe couplings. MESSERSCHMITT-BOLKOW-BLOHM G.m.b.H. 21 Oct., 1969 [22 Oct., 1968], No. 51626/69. Addition to 1,244,928. Heading F2G. A telescopic tube in combination with joints permitting swivelling and universal movement connects a fuel tank on the body of an aircraft or missile to a tank on a variable sweep wing. As shown the telescopic tube 3 is attached by way of a ball joint 6 to the tank on the swing wing and to the associated tank by way of a combination of a pivot joint 4 and a second ball joint 5. Either or both of the ball joints 5, 6 may be stabilized by a resilient sleeve 7 acting between collars 8, 9 on the two parts of the ball joint; one of the collars may be adjustable by a nut 14 to stress the sleeve. A helical spring 12, Fig. 3, may surround the sleeve 7 and is similarly stressed. The telescopic portion of the tube comprises two sleeves, the inner sleeve having three walls and the sliding surfaces of these walls being provided with seals. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates ball joint 6 replaced by flexible hose, movement between the fitting and a surrounding plate being allowed by a Hooke's joint (21) having pivot pins (22, 23) at right angles, and the telescopic tube fitted with an accordian-like protective sleeve supported by a rod (20) extending axially beside it.
