Abstract
1,244,944. Electrophotographic element. ILFORD Ltd. 15 May, 1970 [16 May. 1969], No. 25150/69. Heading H1K. The disclosure of the Specification is very similar to that of Specification 1,244,942 but the claims relate to a transparent electrophotographic element comprising a transparent substrate which has been subbed or treated to enable it to receive a hydrophilic layer, an electroconductive layer and a layer of a transparent photoconductor wherein the electroconductive layer is a polymeric substance of formula where A is H, or an alkali metal, X is an aromatic nucleus, n is 1 to 3 and the group -(SO 3 A) n is directly attached to the aromatic nucleus. In the specific embodiment the polymeric substance is a copolymer of styrene and maleic acid which has been esterified with sulphonated phenol. The copolymer may also be formed from itaconic anhydride with ethylene, methyl vinyl ether or methyl methacrylate.
