Abstract

1,244,335. Strut for building structures. F. J. MAYR. 19 Aug., 1968 [28 March, 1968], No. 39564/68. Heading E1K. [Also in Division A4] A strut which may be used in the construction of scaffolding, partitions, stands, buildings, furniture and the like, and which is of open sectional form, includes a slot 1 having an inner part 1a and a relatively wider outer part 1b extending from end-toend of the strut, internal shoulders 11 within the outer part of the slot, and cam surface means within the inner part of each slot adjacent each strut end, each cam surface means facing away from its adjacent end and being engageable by a connecting member for attachment of the connecting member to the strut adjacent said end. The cam surface means described is in the form of a pair of bores 13, Fig. 6 in the web 3 which are engaged by tapered tips of studs 12 screw threaded into bores 6 of a connecting member, which projects from the strut end so that a pin 7 (or T-head, Fig. 3, not shown) may engage in the outer part 1b of the slot of another strut. The axes of the bores 6 and 13 are so offset that by tightening the studs 12 a camming action is effected whereby the two struts so connected are drawn tightly together.
