Abstract

1,244,332. Decorative coatings. GAF CORP. 23 July, 1968 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 35163/68. Addition to 1,210,103. Heading D1L. A method for producing a colour pattern on a sheet of textile material comprises applying to the material in separate steps a solution or dispersion of a dyestuff (P) which migrates from cooler to hotter areas under the application of a differential heat pattern to the treated textile and a solution or dispersion of a dyestuff (Q) not adapted to migrate under application of a differential heat pattern, reducing the moisture content of the textile to from 50 to 125% of the weight of the textile after application of the migrating dyestuff (P) and immediately subjecting the partially dried material to a differential heat pattern at a sufficient temperature and for a sufficient time to cause migration of the dyestuff (P) from the cooler to the hotter areas of said pattern and subsequently reducing and fixing the migrated dyestuff (P), drying a fixing the non-migrating dyestuff (Q) immediately after application of the dyestuff (Q) to the said textile material. In Fig. 1 a web of material, e.g. cotton twill cloth 10 passes to a dye bath 12 containing reduced vat dye which is fixed in dryer 14, the web then passing to bath 16 containing unseduced vat dye and then through squeeze rollers at 17 to the migration heated roller 18 having the pattern on it, then to bath 20 containing reducing agents and through squeeze rollers 21 to the steaming, rinsing and washing unit 25 and role 26. In Fig. web 10 passes first through a bath 32 of unreduced vat dye then through squeeze rollers 33 to migration roller 18 to migrate the dye which is then reduced in bath 36 containing the reducing agent and a further vat dye, through squeeze rollers 31 to the steaming, rinsing and washing unit 25 and roll 26.
