Abstract

1,244,054. Rotary pumps and compressors. O. LUTZ. May 19, 1969 [May 17, 1968], No.25292/69. Heading F1F. A rotary pump or compressor comprises a cylindrical casing 1, having plane end walls, a tubular single or multi-layered strip 3 of less circumference than the casing attached by blocks 2 along an axial inner surface line of the casing between an inlet 12 and an outlet 13 fitted with a non-return check valve 14 and a drive-shaft 4 mounted co-axially in the end walls, which carries on radial pins 8 an axle 7 loaded by springs 9, a roller 5 which presses the strip 3 substantially linearly against the inner wall of the casing so that on anti-clockwise rotation of the drive-shaft a suction chamber 10 increases in volume and a discharge chamber 11 decreases in volume. The strip 3 is preferably made from a sheet of spring steel or other metal and a layer of lower friction plastics material such as P.T.F.E. which engages the inner surface and end walls of the casing. Two casings may be arranged side-by-side with a transverse wall therebetween and a strip 3 and operating mechanism in each. The radial pins in one casing being disposed at 180 degrees with respect to the radial pins and the other casing to balance the rotating parts.
