Abstract
1,242,618. Electromagnets. SOC. ITALIANA TELECOMUNICAZIONI SIEMENS SpA. 3 Sept., 1969 [14 Oct., 1968], No. 43532/69. Headings H1N and H1P. The spool of a double wound e.g. relay coil for automatic winding carries an end flange having a central hole 1 fitting over the coil spool, and a pair of recesses 2<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP>; 2<SP>11</SP>, 41 are formed on each side of the hole extending in opposite senses to the flange edge, with the outer portions extending through the flange to form a slot while the inner portions only form grooves. Recesses 2<SP>1</SP>, 411 are on one side of the flange and recesses 2<SP>11</SP>, 41 on the other, while short inwardly extening slots 3 and 5 are also formed in the flange edge and the thickness is reduced by one half between slots 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> and 3 and between slots 4<SP>11</SP>, 41 and 5 to form recesses 6 and 7 in the face placed adjacently the connecting tags. An upstanding collar 8 surrounding hole 1 is formed in the face adjacent the windings. In use, the flange is mounted in abutment to an end block 11 carrying connecting tags 9 for a core 10 whose other end carries a plain flange, with recesses 6, 7 forming protected slots, and insulating tape is automatically wound on the core 10. A first wire end is passed through recess 2<SP>1</SP> and the winding automatically applied, after which the second end is passed through recess 2<SP>11</SP> and adhesively secured, and a further layer of insulating tape is automatically applied. The core is transferred to a further machine pulling the winding ends from recesses 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> through protected slots 6 and open slots 3 for soldering to tags 9 with wires passing over edge of block 11. A further winding is applied similarly with its ends initially passed through recesses 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP> and subsequently through protected slots 7 and open slots 5 to soldering tags 9 (not shown); the ends of the windings being held out of contact with the winding turns to avoid damage or short circuit. In a modification (Figs. 3a, 3b, not shown) recesses 41, 4<SP>11</SP> are angled with respect to recesses 2<SP>11</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP>, and the flange edge is cut away to shorten slots 3, 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP>.
