Abstract
1,242,657. Vehicle hydrostatic transmission arrangement; independent suspensions. BRITISH MOTOR CORP. Ltd. 7 May, 1970 [27 June, 1967], No. 32492/69. Headings B7D and B7H. The suspension control arm 1 of a vehicle having hydrostatic wheel motors supplied with fluid from an engine-driven pump, incorporates suspension bearing bush connections 3, 3A at least at its inner end, which bushes are arranged to act as high-pressure seals. Each bush comprises inner and outer metal shells 4, 5 spaced by an annular rubber member 6 in compression. The length/thickness ratio of each bush is such that undue axial deflection is prevented when one side of the bush is subjected to the fluid pressure. The bearing assembly is clamped to the vehicle at one end by a bell-shaped member 19. A pair of such control arms support at their outer ends a swivel pin for a wheel motor; the outer ends may comprise similar bearing assemblies or ball-joints. The transmission fluid also serves as a lubricant for the suspension and steering bearings. Specification 1,189,945 is referred to.
