Abstract
1,242,417. Edge zone thinning of glass fibre sheets. HAUNI-WERKE KORBER & CO. K.G. 17 July, 1968 [28 Oct., 1967], No. 34064/68. Heading B5K. [Also in Division D1] Glass fibres are removed mechanically from a glass fibre sheet. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, a glass fibre mat 2 is thinned out at its edge zone 2a by means of a pin 4 having a point 3 which moves continuously along the path 71. The mat 2 is moved progressively stepwise along the bench 1 by means of the driving roller 54 and counter roller 68. When the mat 2 is stationary the point 3 enters the edge zone 2a and is then extracted so that it removes glass fibres essentially perpendicularly to the margin line 72 of the edge zone 2a. The driving means and extracting means are mechanically coupled together so that the process is repeated at regular intervals to obtain a uniform thinning of the edge zone 2a. The method may also be carried out on the apparatus of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the mat 2 being moved continuously past the fibre extractor means which consists of a continuously rotating roller having pins or needles arranged on its periphery.
